So, in 2018, when I was in India for a brief while, I observed my daughter’s basketball teacher (she was 5 then, I believe).

Now, a lot of the teachers out there I do NOT observe, because neither do they do their job well – nor are they in the least bit interested in it.

This holds true for INdia, China, especially ESL and all that … and probably many other places too.

Lots of them are there to “get a paycheck” and bail.

Without really caring what they’re subconsciously passing on to the young kids – whose minds are UBER impressionable.

I should know!

A job is a job.

I get it.

Not everyone likes it.

But the thing with teaching – especially at a young age is that you’re literally “moulding” kids minds right there in front of you, and the POSITIVE is what needs to be emphasized.

Precious few people DO this …

But anyway, this ain’t about that.

Its about Kiddie Fitness.

So as I observed this dude, I saw he had “somethign going on”.

I dont know what it was, but I got a good vibe off him.

He did NOT look at my long hair and comment, or look at my “different” style or the English (I don’t speak what people deem to be “Indian English”) or any of it.

Instead it was like someone I’d meet anywhere else.

And you’d think he would be tall and lanky and nothing else.

(as a basketball coach).

He is TALL yes.

But he’s broad and STRONG too.

Brings to mind one of the “coaches” at a swimming pool I once swam at – well, two.

One was where I did my daily workouts in the AM.

Slim and trim, and a grip from hell.

And the other was at a hotel pool in …2009 I believe, where a FAT FOCK was teaching me how to swim breaststroke correctly.

Admittedly, he was right in what he was saying.

But what price his own lardass?

And thats why I REFUSE to take instruction of any nature from people that dont do it themselves.

Doctors included. If they’re a lard ass, I ain’t going to them. No way!

And if they drink up daily and advise people not to (some do!).

Yes, they make “money”, but that doesn’t mean they got it.

But anyway, point is this.

This guy was getting the kids to workout RIGHT.

Sort of like my Taekwondo instructor did all those years ago.

This guy was getting them to RUN.

sideways. Backwards. Forwards. Jumps.

The kids, naturally all want to throw the hoop FIRST.

(shoot)

But he didn’t let ’em. Probably still doesn’t!

He understands that PRACTICE comes FIRST.

Karl Gotch was often asked by people “why he didnt teach them wrestling right off the bat”.

His answer was simple.

“You need to get conditioned first!”

You can have all the skills on the mat, but if your conditioning is lame, guess what.

It won’t do you a lick of good in an actual wrestling contest.

Most of all, this dude looks you in the eye when you speak …and Idont know. Good guy, I feel!

And some of the exercises they did are mentioned in Kiddie Fitness.

Some, not all.

But really, looking at how FAT kids in general are getting these days, I put that course out – if you’re a parent reading this, and many of you are – or if you’re a GRANDPARENT – there truly is no better gift to give ’em than the gift that “keeps giving”.

No, it doesn’t mean I’m saying this just to make a sale either.

It’s to PROSPER – in every which way – fitness included -for YOU and your KIDS (because some of the exercises, let me tell ya, you adults out there would be hard pressed to do right off the bat).

Now, and as an aside and before we end.

My Tae Kwon Do instructor knew the value of PUSHING me.

Those groin stretches were painful as heck, but he PUSHED me.

More so than the others.

And pushups were always, for some reason, something I enjoyed.

The rest of the kids would “scrape by”.

I wouldn’t. I’d touch my chest to grass and PAUSE on each rep.

He’d notice.

He’d PRAISE me.

“Good, Rahul!”

And THAT, my friend, is the hall mark of a good coach right there.

Work out the weak, praise the good (in a person).

I dont quite agree with a lot of the physical punishment he dished out to his OWN SON right there in front of everyone.

In fact, even in eighth grade I remember that kid, barely 5, and the guy would just WHACK him across the face so hard you could hear it from across the park.

With us, he wouldn’t do that – but he’d push us to our limits.

Those were different times.

I wonder what that kid has become now, and how much he hates his Dad. Haha.

Anyway … he was a good instructor – that much I’ll tell ya!

I’m out. Back soon!

(and since you have the story – pick up the book here).

Best,

Rahul Mookerjee

PS – Get your kids started on Animal Kingdom Workouts as well – because the combo – they will LOVE it – and BENEFIT MANIFOLD from it.

PS #2 – My instructor was a black belt – and he asked me why I “stopped coming to class in ninth grade”. Hehe. What could I tell him. Studies, and more “fitting in and doing what was expected!”
