Yes, my friend.

Despite the common misconception about “stretching” is bad to do right after eating – especially a heavy meal – and despite the rot about “resting” right after eating a heavy meal – there ARE things you can do to avoid that bloated and “cramped, gaseous” feeling (especially those of you with IBS and such) later on. (or the next morning).

Now, some might point out that I advocate a lifestyle much like that of Mr Tiger, who does things naturally – – does the tiger walk, which is an excellent and very under-utilized exercise in Animal Kingdom Workouts that virtually NO-ONE does, ignoring it in favor of another super exercise, the bear crawl – and an exercise that will get you in kick butt condition FAST, not to mention improve co-ordination and agility beyond belief (ever wonder how tigers can jump up and over the backs of full grown elephants??) — – and who SLEEPS a heavy meal off.

Well, that tiger exercises all day long, my friend.

If you did so, perhaps you could “sleep right after too”.

But in most cases, you’re better off NOT doing so.

OK, stretches first.

A lot of the common stretches people might think of to do after eating?

One is the dead hang from the pull-up bar, an otherwise excellent stretch, but NOT one I’d advocate right after eating. Especially NOT a heavy meal – the last thing you want to do is your stomach to “stretch out” while it’s full of food.

Same things with handstands – right after eating – and the SAME thing for Hindu pushup stretches.

All of that, maybe an hour or so after your meal – preferably TWO hours – and of course as much as you want before.

But the stretches to DO ?

One, the patented “Rahul squat” as I like to call it, because there are so few people out there that can do it as long and as well as I can (and when I started, I couldn’t even get halfway down into it).

Otherwise known as the Asian squat, this one is excellent for digestion, getting rid of excess flatulence and “bloat” in addition to all the other benefits.

This should be combined with the shin stretch shown in Isometric and Flexibility Training (both exercises are in the book).

Next, hamstring stretches yes, but NOT “touch my toes” or other styles of upper body stretches.

You can perhaps stretch the upper body and shoulders a little (this stretch is given in the book as well) – but any vigorous upper body stretching should be left for until at least two hours AFTER eating.

If it’s a light meal, adjust accordingly.

Anyway, yours truly just got done with a heavy meal, and the last thing I’d tell you is something I tell everyone.

That being, the truism of the ancient Chinese and Indian sayings – one being “walk 99 steps after a meal to live a 100 years” – and the other being “walk a 100 steps after a meal” – both one and the same thing essentially.

The LAST thing you want to do is plop your butt down into a chair “exhausted” or go straight to bed, my friend.

Walk at least a 100 steps, preferably more, and I dont mean uphill either.

A gentle walk is all that is required.

Adopt these measures in your “post meal” routine, and watch digestive issues “fly off the plate” nigh quick as well.

More later!

Best,

Rahul Mookerjee
