Was THAT my Come to Jesus fitness moment? Truth be told, there have been so damn many it would take me several lifetimes and reincarantions to list them out until the watershed event in 2015.
Way before this though, I was still training hard.
I remember an excruciatingly painful ankle injury in Oman incurred during a day off from work, doing what I love to do till this day, walking on the beach barefoot.
Coming from home after a long walk in the evening, I twisted the right ankle, or perhaps left – on a mound of sand.
I could barely walk or climb stairs for the next few days. Got all the required sympathy (pathetic I was) at work etc. HA!
Best comment I got was from a Baluchi dude who remarked caustically “lose weight!” While pointing at my bollocks.
Nah, he wasn’t referring to my big balls of steel.
He said the following “Sara weight wahan jayega, yahan nahin”!
The excess weight impacts the feet, not like it’s going on your balls!
Then 2010 when I could barely drive, let alone walk home after the hamstring twinge (coupled with calf – that back of the knee and upper calf area that is so important, so neglected) doing hill sprints.
Bear in mind in Oman I was doing many of the right things. Pull-ups, heavy bag work, running on the beach. India, that first instance I was doing 500 pushups , pull-ups etc….
Then the damn doctor who made a face when I pulled my socks off when I went to show him a swollen ankle (water retention, I figured it out later) that was so painful to the touch it hurt when I touched it like someone had my nuts in a vice grip. Literally.
Like Uncle Bobs doctor who turned away when he has the flu.
Some of these damned doctors ain’t worth a shit, not to mention their own pathetic levels of fitness. And health in general.
The other day while running in the park, I twisted the ankle again …
…. And just kept running like it was nothing. Didn’t even feel it!
This isn’t an invitation to do that sort of thing.
Its just me explaining the sheer importance of training not just hard but right. And isometrics is a must include in any routine. Period. I wasn’t doing that back then- hardly any stretching.
Mainstay of my routine these days…
Back then, my tendons simply weren’t strong – period.
They couldn’t take the sudden stretch.
Combine that with a ton of blubber landing on them, well….
Now, well, it’s a different tale.
And yes, it’s the oh so simple ankle stretches I talk about so much – I even did a brief video illustrating the pops and crackles – are part of the essentials. Detailed in Isometric and Flexibility Training – along with JCVD splits in Advanced, Profound, Isometric and Flexibility Training.
My friend, you’re a complete fool if you think these are too simple and a stud in the gym doesn’t need to do them.
Martial artists do them all the time.
Anyone with any brain does.
And you’d be a complete nut to just look past this email and not invest in world class courses on. Isometrics that give you world class ++ pioneering results like I’ve gotten..
Last but not least, this dont mean only fat fucks incur this sort of thing. You could be a Bertie Wooster, slim like a reed, and yet be the most inflexible person, not do well at pull-ups, pushups etc…
Everyone needs to stretch right. As a workout. Period.
And thats that.
Best,
Rahul Mookerjee
