I believe I’ve written about this before as with a lot of my stuff. A LOT!
And I thought of writing about it again a few days ago, didn’t, now here I am writing about it. A few days ago the thought was half formed, now, here it is.
No nasty comments please, hehe.
Reading about old school cricketers, greats of the game bitching about how modern day cricketers choose to play easy short games (T 20) for a lot more money than play for country (tougher longer games) – it got me thinking.
They’re right.
And the smart modern day cricketers – not a lot, but some, have, like me, seen the whell turn full circle already though it hasnt as yet and have sensibly foregone the huge money etc, opting to do the hard yards not necessarily because that’s the real deal, but because ultimately that wheel comes full circle.
Big and easy is always short lived. The hard stuff endures. Ultimately everyone will come back to old school. It’s already happening.
But I do also wonder, what would these guys do if the easy money existed in their time.
Legacy.
It all comes down to how you want to be remembered.
One of the true greats?
There’s a reason we still think of ole Clint when you think “Westerns” for instance. Although he ain’t done a Western for years.
There’s a reason folks secretly miss the good old times, wistfully say like a friend does, “those days will never come back”.
Oh yes.
They WILL!
Not everyone wants to leave a legacy perhaps and that’s fine.
In that case, make that money (not that old school cricket doesn’t compensate well – it does – it just doesn’t make folks millionaires instantly as T 20 does) … And be happy.
But, putting in the hard yards, the slog, the grind, then making it big, that’s what people romanticize, that’s the journey which is important, what you remember fondly once all the hullabaloo has died down and its you alone thinking – as it always boils down to!
How do you want to be remembered?
A quitter like the vast majority of folks that chose the easy way out?
Or someone that was prepared to take the falls, the hard knocks, the grift, learning experiences, be moulded in the fire like a sword, learn in the trenches and so forth.
No, i ain’t romanticizing poverty. Neither should you. It ain’t pretty. Money is good.
But, easy come easy go, friend.
All boils down to what kind of LEGACY you want to leave.
How do you want to be remembered when you go?
On your death bed – or passing bed – will you have any regrets?
Only YOU can answer that. Not me.
Only YOU.
And thats the message for this one.
Enjoy!
Best,
Rahul Mookerjee
