“Sir, you’re hardcore! You’re really KILLING it!”
- ... And more "ironman" related comments

Dear Reader,

So, yesterday I wrote about weight gain while on lockdown at home – and as I finished that post, an idea came to mind – for today’s post!

Hark back to “pre C virus” days, when yours truly was doing his daily hill climbs etc – and as I finished my second climb up the mighty HILL that I write so often about – I saw a couple of ladies motoring up the hill.

Or wheezing up the hill, I should say. American ladies if I’m not mistaken, and both of these gals were FAT, my friend – no two ways around that – and I’m being polite here, mind you!

Other hand, it was commendable that they were doing something about it – so as I breezed past them, I gave them a little smile of acknowledgement. Not sure if they noticed it or  not though …

On my way down, I noticed these two ladies still at it – climbing the hill.

As I finished climb #3, I saw the two ladies again – puffing and panting (they had just finished THEIR climb #1).

I didn’t pause for breath.

Off it was for climb #4, and as I went about that climb, I saw these two ladies descending the hill slowly.

And as I went past them, one of them called out.

“Sir, you’re hardcore indeed!”

The other chimed in with “Yes, indeed! This is the third time you’re climbing the hill – you’re really KILLING it!”

“Ironman levels!” …

And as this was being said, and the two ladies were asking me if I was indeed planning on participating in a triathlon, I managed to get in a word sideways (I know, I know, hehe).

“Not climb #3. It’s #4”, I s aid with a big smile on my face.

“Fouuuuuuurrrrr!” chimed lady #1, as if it was some sort of hymn she was chanting in church or something.

“Fourrrrrr! Make that five!” laughed the other lady.

“Nah, not quite at that level as yet!” I laughed back, and bade goodbye to them.

Actually, that last bit wasn’t quite true. Back in the day I’d hike this same hill 6-7 times daily – multiple times a day – but I did NOT want to give these two ladies more of a shock than I already did, hehe.

And that sort of thing, along with actual results vindicates all the hard work I put in on a regular basis in my workouts.

It’s indeed nice to swing by the pizza dude ‘s(remember yesterday’s email?) place and have him note “you’re in excellent shape!”

And of course, the “you look like a movie star” comments that have been made in the past …

Let’s face it, folks. We ALL want to look – and feel – GREAT – but most of us are too lazy to put in the work to get there!

And I’m here to tell you that there is NO way around hard work, my friend. Often times I would feel like quitting during my climbs (yes, even this Ironman has feelings!) – but I did NOT.

I kept going – just kept going – and the feeling of ACCOMPLISHMENT at the end of each workout was nigh indescribable.

Same for the pushup workouts – extreme bridging – and other workouts!

And writing that bit fired me up so much that I’m off to do some squats. Sure do wish this lockdown would end soon though – I miss my beloved hill too much!

And on that note, it’s adios for now. Back again tomorrow!

Best,

Rahul Mookerjee

“My fat pants don’t fit well so I wore a dress”
- .... "I've been avoiding the scale"

Dear Reader,

So, for those of you that have been living under a rock (figuratively speaking, hehe) and haven’t yet heard about the C-virus – rest assured that pretty much the whole of China is on extended “lockdown” due to this SARS-like-virus.

The provinces of Hubei and Zhejiang, two of the country’s most popolous provinces are on official lockdown – and in China when there is a lockdown, my word, it IS a lockdown.

People aren’t being able to leave their houses unless offical sanction is obtained – and neither can they drive on the roads freely – and neither can they step out without wearing face masks – all of which are in short supply.

And while those are the two areas under “official” lockdown, the rest of the country is on unofficial lockdown pretty much.

So, folks have been confined to their homes pretty much – and while personally speaking I believe these measures are a case of “shutting the stable door after the horse long done bolted” – it is what it is, my friend.

And of course, “sitting at home” brings with it the issue of weight gain.

This afternoon, I was browsing through one of my WeChat groups – a group that a local pizza owner has set up.

“Anyone gain weight since this outbreak started”, he asks.

And instantly, there was a flood of responses.

“I’ve been avoiding the scale” – said one gentleman (who goes by the nick “Escaped Lunatic, hehe”).

“My fat pants didnt fit last week. I decided something had to be done. so I went back  to dresses. It’s been working very well!”, chimed in another lady.

There is more, but thats enough of a Sunday titter, me thinks.

Funny part is that these fine folks and others not mentioned here are flooding social media with “complaints” of “getting fat” – all the while apparently eating tons of food at home “because they’re bored and have nothing to do”.

Gorging on pizza certainly ain’t the best way to keep one’s weight down – and neither is stuffing one’s gourd with cheese, wines, and all this other stuff that seems to be the rage right on social media, especially with expats in China (but probably locals too).

As for yours truly, I’m very very glad to report that I haven’t gained a lick of weight whatsover, but it also bears mentioning that I did the sensible thing, and did NOT substitute “boredom” for “eating”.

In fact, I wasn’t bored at all – my own fitness System gave me all the exercise I needed, and my writing etc keeps me busy as it always does!

So if you’re stuck at home for whatever reason, folks, and cannot workout (though there never is an excuse for not exercising at home) – then WATCH YOUR DIET!

Eat LESS – not MORE!

Once you start working out, of course, you have full license to eat more – and weigh less at the same time, and that my dear reader, are the measures you need to take when “your fat pants don’t fit well last week” as opposed to skirting the issue and “hiding under baggy flowing dresses”.

That last one REALLY made me laugh, by the way, hehe – and I’ll end this here. Plenty of brickbat coming my way I’m sure – send ’em over, hehe – just make sure they’re all officially approved for the lockdown!

Best,

Rahul Mookerjee

P.S. – Did I say “Eat More – Weigh Less”?? Showl did, friend – I’ve got PROOF that it is VERY doable – and here is where you can learn more about it – https://0excusesfitness.com/eatmore-weighless/

Losing weight while “stuck at home”
- And yes - it is very possible indeed!

Dear Reader,

I spoke with a lady in Jiangxi province in mainland China yesterday that was referring to her hips being a little bigger than they should (according to her Mama anyway, hehe).

She’s a bit on the bigger side yes, but certainly not obese or close to it (not by Western standards at least – and not by modern day Chinese standards either).

“Just be yourself, Candice”, is what I told her. “It suits you”.

And then I told her that she could lose weight if she wanted to – but so long as did SOME exercise daily (which she seem to be doing on a semi-regular basis at least), then she’s at least got the basic building blocks in place – more than the majority of folks out there I’d say.

This may sound a bit “apart” from the “harsh” words I used with the other lady (remember that email??) – but hey – I can tell when a person is at least trying, and the effort DOES count.

“But it’s so hard to lose weight, especially now, stuck at home … ”

Bear in mind this is in mainland China, where darn near everything is under either official or unoffical lockdown due to this coronavirus scare going on – but the fact also is that I’ve heard several variants of this “reason” for years now.

“I haven’t felt motivated to do …. ” (yeah, right – can we say “a kick up the ass”??)

“It’s too hot out there!” (Yeah, right, does this person realize he’s talking to someone who hiked hill in at 12 noon during the summer – crazy yes – but better than making silly excuses!”

“I’m too busy to exercise!”

“The machines were occupied at the gym, and I didn’t feel like it anyway”

But what never ceases to amaze me is the first reason I stated – folks that think losing weight while “being at home” is not easy – or not doable. Kind of like those people that ask me daily “where is your office” – and then look at me stunned when I tell them I have NO office, and zero overhead.

Imagination, my friend is key.  As is willingness to TRY – and BELIEVE – and have FAITH – and if you just TRY the routines I teach – WHILE being “stuck at home”, believe me, you’ll lose weight (and oodles of it when you first start out).

Yes, I realize I said yesterday that walking is one of the best things you can do in this regard, and it IS – but what if you can’t?

What if you’re on lockdown as is currently the case – or its snowing cats and dogs outside – or you’re in a hotel with nowhere really to walk outside other than busy streets?

Believe me, my friend – believe me now and trust me later, while those hikes were integral to my getting int he best shape of my life – the ICING on the cake was the 0 Excuses Fitness System.

The pushups (especially certain ones) mentioned in there done for high reps were KEY to getting that last annoying bit of flab off – you know how that goes, don’t you? You get the bulk off the fat off you somewhat quick, but it gets harder as you go along – and I did this via ONLY home workouts.

Thats right. Home workouits, and if you read the part of the blog where I transitioned from the old www.rahulmookerjee.com site to THIS one, you’ll see plenty of posts along those lines too – along with RESULTS.

True, I watched my diet – but I didnt count calories. I merely didnt eat like a pig and didn’t binge drink etc – and the results were there for all to see – even for someone like me that puts on weight way too easily, and in all the wrong areas “by default”, hehe.

And if I can do it – you, my dear reader, certainly can!

Take the first step right here. It will be by far the best fitness choice you’ve ever made!

Best,

Rahul Mookerjee

The simplest and quickest way to SUPER fitness
- ... and the most underrated exercise ever

Dear Reader,

Yesterday I wrote to you about how to handle criticism and negativity (perceived or not) – and also about fitness – and weight loss (and comments related to the same).

I referred to my own “120 – 60” story in that email (I didn’t mention the numbers specifically, but the comments I referred to should give you a good idea of the situation back then!).

Anyway, one of my TOP weapons – if not THE top weapon against the “bulge” is something so simple you’d laugh at me if I mentioned it here (which I will, hehe).

It’s something so simple you might not even think it to be exercise – but it IS.

It’s something that was KEY and INSTRUMENTAL in getting me in the sort of shape I am in today – and it is something that can pretty much be done anywhere.

It’s something that almost EVERYONE, REGARDLESS of their current shape or fitness levels can partake in – and take advantage of to win the “battle against the bulge” as it were.

And it’s an activity whose benefits extend way, way beyond the mere physical.

What is it?

Well, I’ll tell you – but first …

My own morning routine in China consists of, and has consisted of for YEARS – waking up in the A.M., and pounding a jug of water first thing.

About 2 liters of water – and this here little activity is one of the best things you can do for yourself- and your body – and YES, with regard to your weight loss goals as well.

Drinking water as soon as you wake up not only hydrates the entire body – but it also “wakes up the entire body” (in terms of organs) – and I’m not just speaking metamorphically here.

Your stomach gets “flushed out” – and the liver gets the necessary “hydration” required to perform it’s job well for the entire day. Ditto for your muscles and bones – remember – the body, believe it or not, seem like it or not – is 60% WATER – and the more pure water you put into your system, the better off you’ll be.

And after this, what I did was the “simple activity” I’m referring to.

That being putting one leg in front of the other – WALKING.

That’s right. WALKING uphill daily – and keeping at it – was one of the KEYS to my rapid weight loss – and so – it is any surprise that I devote an entire CHAPTER to it in 0 Excuses Fitness?

Is it any surprise that this one simple activity can prolong your life by several year – even without additional exercise?

And while walking on level ground won’t give you quite the same results as uphill walks will – there are always ways to make your walks tougher – stairs being one prime example.

And the benefits of walking extend beyond the physical.

In China I live in a gated apartment complex (“hua yuan”, or garden as the Chinese like to call it) – and I’d often go for long walks in my garden at night – or indeed in the afternoon on occasion.

These weren’t brisk walks – and had NOTHING whatsoever to do with losing weight.

And even today, when I’m faced with a tough problem – or a business situation I need to resolve – or if I’m just looking for more ideas on new products, books etc – often times, taking a long “meditative” walk seems to be the “way out”.

During these walks I don’t actively ponder what I am trying to resolve.

I simply put one foot in front of the other – connect with the great outdoors – and focus upon my breathing – and a short while later (or perhaps long, depending) I return to my work supercharged – and READY TO GO!

And if you do this right, YOU TOO, my friend can experience the same benefits.

There is more to this, and I’ll cover it all in my member’s circle for those interested – but for now – remember the one (or two, I believe) tips I gave you in this email. They’ll serve you well for your entire life – THAT much is for sure!

When they say “you’ll never … “
- ... and the PERFECT way to handle criticism

Dear Reader,

What I am about to say today might come as a bit of a “boot to the ass” (or shock, hehe) to many, especially considering this (insanely, in my opinion) politically correct world we live in, but hold on to yer horses for a minute, my friend.

Read what I have to say, and perhaps you’ll agree as well.

I think you’ll agree with me, my dear reader, that society today these days seems to have turned into the exact opposite of what it SHOULD be. Speaking one’s mind freely seems to attract criticism rather than praise – and stating facts for what they are seems to attract even more censure.

For instance, I once called out a lady as being “grossly obese” (and I believe I used the words “lard lump” as well).

Before you jump on me with swords drawn, ladies and gents, remember that this sort of thing is something I NEVER EVER say to others at “first glance”.  In fact I’ll do all I can to help and uplift the person – as opposed to drag them down, but when said person refuses to move off the couch or shake a limb even despite the grossly obese state he/she is in, “harsh” words are in order!

And how you take those harsh words is up to YOU, my friend.

You could moan and groan about me being rude – or piss and moan about “bodyshaming” – or anything of that nature.

Or, you could get pissed – real pissed – and then channel that emotion into something CONSTRUCTIVE!

What do I mean?

Well, a few years ago a person (a family member to be accurate, and for those of you that have been reading these newsletters – I’ll let you guess who, hehe) pointed at my stomach and exclaimed with a disgusted expression on his face “You’re obese! Literally so!”

“Your stomach is hanging over your pants!”

And it was, to be honest. Those were my “120 kg” days – and the other side of the coin of course is that one living in a glass house shouldn’t throw stones i.e. this person at the time (and indeed throughout his life) has never quite been the epitome of fitness if I might say so.

No, that is NOT me being negative – that is me stating a fact.

Or, let’s take the scores of people that said “You’ll never get down to the waist levels you had when you were 23!”

Or, and this is probably the most galling “You’ll never be able to make money doing your own thing!” (this from a good friend mind you – and WELL intentioned!)

My response to all of the above could have been to sulk and moan – or grip about how “negative” said folks were – or sit back and complain about how it was none of their biz.

And while I may have been somewhat right on the above fronts, the FACT remains that it wouldn’t have changed anything about ME for the better.

My response to the weight comment was to get pissed – and file away that memory in the annals of my brain – and then get to WORK getting the FITTEST I’ve ever been.

And every time I climbed that hill, every pull-up I did, every last pushup I did – those words rang out in my mind – and did nothing but increase the satisfaction I felt from having gotten through another hard, hard workout!

The quickest way to shut folks up, my friend is RESULTS – and once you get those results, believe me, words are NOT necessary.

My response to the “you’ll never make money” comment – well, I think we all know the answer to that one don’t we?

Key thing is though – don’t respond “in kind”.

There is a saying which goes as follows – never get into a piss fight with a skunk. Doing so won’t benefit you one bit other than the external and hollow “satisfaction” of having “replied in kind” – but doing as Napoleon Hill said will benefit you IMMENSELY.

Tell the world what you’re going to do – but SHOW them first!

So the next time someone says “never” (or makes comments to that end) – and you get angry – or upset – or worse – stop for a minute and ponder what I’ve said.

They said you’re obese?

No problem, my friend. Get pissed – get angry – work yourself up into a frenzy over it – and then – most importantly – get to WORK to DISPROVE what they said!

Additionally, there is a darn good reason as to why one should “never say never” – and I think I’ve covered that above too!

Get angry – and CHANNEL that anger, my friend.  That’s the key right there – and that right there is what today’s email is all about.

What have YOU done today towards getting in the best shape of your life? Write back, and let me know!

Best,

Rahul Mookerjee

Shake limbs, release STRESS
- ... and a few stretches as well - as well as WHERE we hold a lot of stress ...

Dear Reader,

Today’s email might sound a bit goofy – or even a bit batty (NO puns intended with regard to this C-virus currently going around!!) – but bear with me.

If there is one thing that most people are “afflicted” with these days, it is this – STRESS.

It isn’t so much being unfit – or fat – or grossly overweight – or even thin and unfit – or a combo of the others that bothers the average Joe or Jane so much as STRESS does – and along with stress, a creaky, aching body that seems way older than it is.

Now yes, I could wax lyrical about the 0 Excuses Fitness System and regular exercise here, of course. Or, I could go on and on about the importance of proper sleep and regular massage. Or … but no, I’m not going to get into any of those details in this here email.

Today’s email is about a few tips to release STRESS from your body quicker than you can say voila – but before we do so – understand WHERE the average person stores most of his her stress.

The neck, traps and upper back are prime areas for “stocking a lot of stress” as is the lower back. Both due to too much time spent sitting (with improper posture in many cases) – – as well as a lot of time on the dumbphone or computer (or both).

Along with this, the hamstrings are another area that are tight as heck for many people – even super fit folks may have an issue with tight hamstrings. I know – as I did for many years, and still do if I don’t work this area assiduously (I’ve been born with, amongst other things, naturally tight hamstrings).

Fitness and “peak performance” aside, it’s vital to remove the stress for these parts of your body  and get the “qi” flowing again, my friend – or in plain English, get your body’s energy centers WORKING FOR you – as opposed to against you.

Being loose and relaxed flows over into other areas of your life as well.  You won’t just feel better – you’ll perform better – and you’ll notice that things start to “flow” into your life, just as it was meant to be. But for the purpose of this email, let’s just stick to physical feeling …

And now, the “what to do”.  Here goes!

The first tip is to do what the subject of this emails tells you to do. Simply shake your arms while holding them loose and shrugging repeatedly – and take deep breaths while doing so.

Do this while walking, or standing – and remember to inhale and exhale deeply as you do so.

You may think it makes you look goofy, but this is one of the very best ways of removing stress from your upper body – and FAST, at that – not to mention get the blood flowing quickly.

Combine this with shaking your legs together as if they were jelly (wobbly jelly) – and you’ve got a perfect “shake and destress” routine for the entire body right there.

And before you diss me by saying “it’s too simple” – well – TRY it, my friend. Just TRY it first, and then comment upon it. YES, the simplest things sometimes work the best!

Another way of destressing the upper body and back in particular is the FORWARD stretch.

I’ve spoken often about the benefits of the bridge in all it’s various shapes, forms and variations – as well as wall walks – but I’ve always mentioned, both in the book and the video, that it is EQUALLY important to stretch FORWARD as well.

Finish off your bridging routine by touching your toes – knees straight – and hold for a while. For those of you with tight hamstrings and shoulders, you’ll be amazed at how good you feel after a few minutes of holding this position (along with the bridge, of course)!

Once done with that, move on to the downward dog position in the Hindu pushup. Really stretch – look back at your feet – keep the legs STRAIGHT – and you’ll feel the stretch ALL over your body – and you’ll feel GREAT after a minute or so after this.

If you’ve ever wondered why a cat – or dog – stretches forward to begin their day – well – now you know!

Best part about all of this though is this – you can get this done literally anywhere, anyplace, anytime. Feeling overly stressed? Tight traps? No problem – get down and shake and stretch a little – and feel the energy flow again, my friend.

Combine that with regular walking – or hiking – or swimming – and of course, the best fitness system on the planet – and that is ALL you need to do to arrive at “De Stress Central” – permanently!

And that is that for today’s note. Be back again with more!

Best,

Rahul Mookerjee

When your “regular routine” is interrupted …
- ... and a bit of a Coronavirus "advice"

Dear Reader,

Well, it’s certainly been another long break from posting, hasn’t it? So much going on … so many things to do, so little time, and while that certainly isn’t an excuse not to post – as they say “tis what it is!”

On the fitness front, things have been going great guns. I’ve been getting in one superb workout after the other on the hill – and I’ve doing pushups and pullups galore as well (the first with a bit of a twist, hehe, but I’ll get into that later!)

On the business front, things have been going well – steady sailing, and one of the more interesting developments is this – we are currently in the process of translating my books and courses over into Spanish.

As of now, 0 Excuses Fitness and the first book on pull-ups have been translated, and while they aren’t available on this site, a quick Amazon search should pull ’em both up!

So if English isn’t your preferred language and it might not be for many of you amigos out there – – well – – have at – -we’re working hard to rectify just that!

And on the life front – well, I’m back in Spain – a country where I seem to land up every year regardless – and just in the nick of time it seems.  The deadly coronavirus started to rage across mainland China just a couple of weeks after I left, and we all know the fallout of that, don’t we?

A virus that is spreading globally and causing a lot of deaths in the mainland – and a virus that could have and SHOULD have been contained way back when it started last Nov – ah, but I’ll stop there. My best wishes to those affected and obviously China in general – it’s been a country where I’ve spent years and enjoyed it, and I for one hate to see this sort of thing occurring there (or anywhere, for that matter).

(Edit – I’ll be back soon – but thats another story altogether)

And that out of the way – this virus affects mostly the elderly and young – and those with low or “weak”immune systems.

And you don’t have to be a scientist to know that the #1 way to boost your immune system – and health in general – is regular, HARD workouts.

Climb a hill daily – multiple time if you so choose – and sprint that sucker on occasion – and chances are that is ALL the working out you’ll ever need – and chances also are you’ll never need a face mask or worry about “Coronaviruses”  or other such flu-like pandemics.

Bang out 250 pushups daily in quick time, and the same applies. Or climb stairs. Or … but you get my drift!

Now, some of you out there do all of this – and MORE on a regular basis.

But what when travel – and the unexpected – throws a spanner into your works?

Por ejempelo, I do NOT have a hill here where I’m at – and outdoor conditions are less than favorable for any sort of walking – let alone working out at any pace, hehe.

(NB – it must be said that I’m saying keeping in my mind my own fitness levels – where a brisk 30-35 minute walk on level ground barely even gets me going)

And many of you are probably facing the same situation as well.

The obvious answer to this would be a workout you can get in anywhere – anyplace – anytime – either indoors or outdoors.

A workout that will NOT challenge you for time – but which WILL challenge you in ALL other ways, mi amigo.

A workout that will get you huffing, puffing, sweating and panting – and boost T levels and immunity – all within record time – and that is the 0 Excuses Fitness System for you in a nutshell, my friend.

Other than this, what are some MUSTS to do when your regular routine is interrupted?

Well, stretching, for one. Stretching isn’t something I normally advocate before workouts, but if you’re unable to get a decent workout in, then stretching might just be what the doc ordered.

The “downward” position of the Hindu pushup is a great one, as is the back bridge (along with front). The tablemaker is another position I highly recommend (and believe you me, it’s far tougher than it looks on camera, hehe).

Pushups are another must, even if you just do a few.

And last, but not least, that eternal must do – WALKING!

Boy do I miss my daily hikes on Qi Feng mountain – as well as the sheer rush I got from those workouts – but for now, I’m getting my walk on here in the congested city streets of Madrid.

30-35 minutes brisk walking a day, and while I barely work up a sweat – I know I’m doing something – daily – and that, my friend, as I’ve said so many times – is the real key to staying fit over a lifetime.

It’s like a bank balance – keep depositing money – or small chunks of exercise – and it will grow accordingly. Ditto if you choose the reverse, of course!

So that’s what’ been going on, my friend. My apologies again for the break in posts – mea culpa, as they say – and a very happy (albeit belated) Happy New Year to all of you reading this!

Best wishes – stay safe – and remember to get your workout in no matter what – ZERO excuses!

Best,

Rahul Mookerjee

“But it cost 10 k and will reduce 60 kg”
- ... I've never quite heard something so so foolish, but there is always a first time in life!

Dear Reader,

So, I’ve written at length in the past about people trying to “weasel” discounts off yours truly.

People trying to find every excuse in the book to get “something for nothing” (by the way, if you haven’t read that post do so NOW – right after finishing this email).

People finding every excuse in the book to NOT exercise the way they should – or worse, not exercise at all. Some of these excuses are downright laughable at best and utterly retarded at worst, of course.

Stuff that makes you go “how did this guy – or gal – ever think of this in the first place”.

Well, I think I’ve seen it all – – or I THOUGHT I had until yesterday.

My LinkedIn Inbox recently received this comment from a person that falls into the first category above.

“Hi but it cost 10k but and it will reduce 60 kg, i just want to reduce 10 kg…if you can help me in this it will be great for you….”

From the person’s name, and from what she says, it seems she is from India – a land where I have a customer aplenty, and yet, my first response to this (mentally) was something quite unprintable – and no – by that I dont mean what it sounds like.

In short – I was going to respond with one brief statement “How asinine a question can someone ask” – or – and perhaps better, simply this ” . . . “??

For those that doubt the veracity of what I’m saying – hey – I’m more than happy to provide a screen shot if need be – I simply haven’t done so to avoid making the person’s name public.

10 k apparently refers to INR (which seems to roughly equate to USD 149.99) – – and apparently this makes this lady think that paying 10 k will result in a miraculous 60 kg loss.

Why?

Apparently because I’ve championed my own story (every darn bit TRUE, by the way) on my site galore in terms of getting down from a pretty sizeable 120 kgs to 60.

Of course, how she drew the parallel between “10 k” and “60 kg” is beyond comprehension – but hey “.  .  .” !!

How she drew the parallel between “just losing 10 kg” and the price is also beyond comprehension, at least for me.

And so, as I’m left shaking my head in bewilderment, the only thing I can ask YOU, my dear reader to do is shake your head – and enjoy a well deserved laugh. Heck, if you’ve gotten thus far without spitting out your morning coffee – afternoon tea – or nightly brew of choice – you deserve that laugh – and a double dose of it at that, hehe.

And once you’re done laughing – rest assured that we’ll return to regular service tomorrow. I’ve been following a special routine as of late that has my hips and buttocks sore as HECK – and I’ll be divulging details on this shortly.

Be on the outlook for that. Until then – be sure and SMASH that workout today – and let me know how it went!

Best,

Rahul Mookerjee

P.S. – Maybe a 149 buckeroonie investment equates to 149 lbs of weight loss? Ha, ha, ha!

Adaptability
- Improvise - adapt - OVERCOME

Dear Reader

In my writings, I’ve often referred to a good friend of mine – an ex-Marine – and a giant of a man physically – but what I haven’t often spoken about is something that is a key tenet of his life philosophy if I might say so.

We often “shoot the bull” over this over a couple of cold ones, and he often chides me for not sticking to (well, to the letter, at any rate, hehe!) the core concepts of what they were taught in boot camp – and something that ALL Marines are taught – that being – to improvise – ADAPT – and overcome!

Now there is certainly nothing at all wrong with this philosophy if I might say so – but I’m often times a bit bull headed about gut feelings – and I only adapt when my gut tells me to, which is where we differ – at times.

Now, what is the point of all this?

Well – it is this – my friend, that to me, all three sections of that above statement are nigh important – but ADAPTABILITY is the MOST important by far.

You have to adapt at whatever life throws at ya – on the fly often times. Nothing ever goes according to “plan” in life – and this holds doubly true if you’re an entrepreneur – business person – a soldier in the battlefield – a sportsperson battling it out on top stage – or just your average Joe that believes in “living life a day at a time”.

It matters now whether you’re talking business – or sports – or fitness – or relationships – adaptability (along with persistence) is what will you get you to the top rung of that ladder, my friend.

This morning I was hit with a situation where I couldn’t work out at my normal time – and when I did finally show up – I saw that sections of the hill I so love to workout on on occasion were cordoned off for whatever reason.

I could have just given up and gone home – but I did not.

I found a way to get it done – and boy did I – and I feel GREAT now.

Business wise, there have been tons of issues going on – all of which have tested my faith to the extreme – and all of which require ADAPTABILITY.

You can improvise all you like, but if you don’t (or if your mind doesn’t) ADAPT – all of it might as well be water down the drain, if I might say so.

Mental adaptation is nigh important, my friend – and I say that one more time.

Henry Ford got to where he did because of persistence – but ADAPTING on the FLY was how he corrected the flaws in all his various (early) models.

Believe it or not, he learned on the job as it were. His initial cars were met with scorn – derision – and when they did start to sell, they were plagued by various problems.

But he persisted – and ADAPTED according to demand – and the rest is history.

I’ve often spoken about the famous case where Ford tasked his engineers to build a 8 cylinder motor in one block.

They all agreed to a man that it was impossible, and yet, Ford would have none of it.

I want it, and I’ll have it!

A year and a half later, the solution magically “appeared” as it out of nowhere, and while this speaks volumes to Henry Ford’s persistence, it all shows you the value of ADAPTING.

I’m sure his engineers wouldn’t have eventually hit upon the solution if their minds hadn’t adapted to the possibility of finding the solution one day – no matter how.

And in terms of fitness, that is precisely what is so awesome about the 0 Excuses Fitness System.

No hill? No treadmill?

No problemo, mi amigo. Hit the squats – and jumping squats – and you’ll quickly be burning fat off your frame so fast you’ll wonder why you ever needed the above.

No benching machines and bros dripping with sweat “pumping and tonight”?

No problemo, my friend. Pound out some handstand pushups as I did today – and that’s probably the only upper body workout you’ll need for the entire day – or two, hehe.

Improve – ADAPT – and then overcome.

Go “git her done”!!

Best,

Rahul Mookerjee

Leg and back work – and WHY
- And it sure is WORTH it ...

Dear Reader,

For those of you that have been following me, you know the importance I place upon regular, heavy duty, take no prisoners LEG – and BACK work.

These are the most ignored components in most modern day training routines – and so – is it any surprise that most so called “strong” guys at the gym fall flat on their face when confronted with any REAL strength test?

Let’s say you’re tasked with carrying 80 year old Grandma up a flight of stairs – or 5 (I live on the fifth floor of a building currently and there aren’t any elevators) – or even 15.

Let’s say you received a 50 kg shipment – that you have to haul by your lonesome to your office – or workplace – and that hauling includes 10 minutes of walking in the hot sun – and a climb up 7 flights of stairs – a walk back – and then back again – and then up the stairs again.

Or, let’s assume you have to run – simply RUN – as fast as you CAN – to SAVE YOUR LIFE (which might not be a remote possibility given how things are these days, but I’ll leave that be for another day).

All these are situations we encounter in our lives often, and I wouldn’t be shitting ya to tell you most of the boobybuilders and pumpers at the gym would run for the hills (literally) when confronted with any of these challenges.

Or, and this is true, they’d drop dead from a heart attack (true story – see Shoulders like Boulders for more on this).

The real value from your training comes from how USEFUL it is in your daily life, my friend – not so much how it makes you look. Although that is a desirable side effect, it is NOT why you should be training in the first place.

I was recently confronted with the 50 kg situation I mentioned above, and I can very confidently say that it was my daily training that allowed me to hammer out that situation with little or no problems.

I’d be lying to say I wasn’t flattened at the end of it, of course. Try lugging unwieldy 25kg packages over hilly terrain and up and down flights of stairs – or simply walk with it in the hot sun, and you’ll see what I mean …

And the key to all this – is – and again – heavy duty LEG and back work.

Training the legs and back are absolutely VITAL to your training regimen, my friend.

And a key, key component is SQUATTING – except not with heavy weights that injure you and make you slow and bulky.

No, the key is to train with your own bodyweight – as in, Hindu squats.

‘Twas raining this morning, so I couldn’t do my hill climbs (another awesome way to get your legs and back in shape, and FAST) – so I pumped out 250 squats.

Mind you, I haven’t done these in a while and I expect some major league soreness tomorrow – but damn, they felt GOOD!

My shoulders, chest and upper traps all feel like they’re been hammered – within 15 minutes.

I was going to stop at that, but I felt so good that I pumped out another 100 pushups – mostly on my fingertips – and that was the perfect 6:10 AM start to my day, if I might say so.

Legs and back, my friend. Legs and back.

You may not have a hill near you. You may not even have stairs, or a swimming pool near you.

But you DO have your own body – and a few square feet of space – and a few spare MINUTES to train.

And that’s all you need.

Zero excuses, pally. Get on the stick NOW.

Best,

Rahul Mookerjee

P.S. – Work into Hindu squats slowly. If you’re starting out, exercise due caution. I cover all this in the book and videos – – as well as the blog, but again – as they say – make haste – but with due caution – and slowly!
